Pivot Doors in Phoenix, AZ

A pivot door turns on a floor-mounted pivot instead of side hinges, allowing for much larger entry panels. Noble Windows & Doors measures, supplies and installs pivot doors across the Phoenix Valley, including the opening work when your project requires it.

Glass thickness 1/4 to 1inch

PRL’s aluminum doors take glass from a quarter inch up to a full inch, so an insulated or laminated package fits the panel.

Stile widths 4widths

Narrow, medium, wide or oversize. The stile is the aluminum around the glass, so it sets how much of the door is glass.

Pivot options 2ways

Center pivot or offset pivot, both published for PRL’s aluminum doors, in standard or custom widths and heights.

Pivot Door

What Is a Pivot Door?

One big panel turning on a pin set into the floor, instead of hanging off hinges on the frame.

PRL Glass Systems aluminum double entry doors with an arched transom, set behind a stone loggia

A hinged door hangs off one edge and its hinges carry the weight into the frame. A pivot door turns on an axis set in from the edge, on a pivot in the floor and a matching one at the head. The floor takes the load instead of the jamb.

That one change is why the panel can be so much taller and wider than a normal front door. It is also why the door opens both ways at once: the long side swings out, the short side swings in.

Is a Pivot Door Right for Your Entry?

  • 01

    Opening height

A pivot door makes the most sense when the entry has enough height to take advantage of its scale.

  • 02

    Space on both sides

Part of the panel swings out while the other part swings in, so the porch and interior entry need enough clearance.

  • 03

    Weather exposure

A pivot usually seals less tightly than a hinged door, so it suits an entry under a porch, a recess or an overhang.

  • 04

    Screen and security doors

A standard screen or security door does not mount to a pivot panel. If you want one, it needs to be considered during the design.

If one of these rules a pivot out, a tall hinged entry gets most of the look. See our exterior doors.

Why Choose Noble for Your Pivot Door?

A pivot door is three things at once: a door, an opening and a piece of hardware. They all have to agree with each other. Most projects that go wrong go wrong at the joins between them. Noble keeps all three on one scope.

  • Structural Work Under One Contract

Noble Windows & Doors LLC holds AZ ROC #364772, a KB-1 Dual Building Contractor license, plus AZ ROC #364771 for electrical work. Your entry may need a new header, a floor cut for the pivot, or electrical moved out of the way. That scope stays inside the same contract as the door.

  • PRL Aluminum Pivot Doors, Sized to Your Opening

The pivot doors we install are PRL Glass Systems’ commercially rated aluminum doors. We match the stile width, the glass and the pivot hardware to your opening’s size, the panel’s weight and how much sun and rain the entry takes.

  • A Line-by-Line Written Quote

Your written quote names the pivot system and its weight rating, the panel specification, the glass and the lock. Work on the opening shows as a separate line. That is what makes two quotes comparable.

  • Local Phoenix Showroom

Come and swing a large door before you order one. Our showroom is at 4001 E Broadway Rd, Unit B-11, Phoenix, AZ 85040. You can compare hardware, finishes and glass there with our team.

The Design And Installation Process

Consultation

We start with how you use the entry and what the elevation is asking for. What the door is meant to do, what is already planned for the rest of the openings, and where a pivot door is the right answer and where it is not.

01

Design And Product Selection

Configuration, panel style, material, glass, finish and hardware, matched against a system that can build them at your size. Samples come to you, or you come to the Broadway Road showroom.

02

Free In-Home Measure

We measure the opening, the porch and the entry floor, and check the header and the slab. We also walk the route the panel has to travel, and check both swing arcs against what is in them.

03

Written Specification And Scope

Your quote names the pivot system and its published weight rating, the panel specification, the glass and the lock. Any work on the opening gets its own line, so the door and the wall can be compared separately.

04

Engineering, Permitting And Order

Where the opening changes, structural engineering and permitting happen before anything is ordered. The panel is then built to the confirmed dimensions, which is the point at which the specification is locked.

05

Installation And Walkthrough

We complete the opening work, set the pivots true, then hang and balance the panel. After the stucco and interior repairs are finished, we walk the door with you, adjust it, and come back for the settling adjustment.

06

What's Included With Your Pivot Door Installation?

Your project is quoted as one scope. The opening work sits on its own line, so you can see what belongs to the door and what belongs to the wall. Every pivot door installation includes:

Free in-home measure of the actual opening, floor and threshold, not just the plans
Written quote listing the pivot system, panel specification, glass and hardware
Custom-built pivot door sized to your opening, with the swing direction confirmed on site
Pivot hardware selected against the finished weight of your panel, with the rating in writing
Structural work on the opening itemized separately when the opening has to change
Permit handling where the City of Phoenix requires one
Professional installation under Noble's AZ ROC #364772 license
Installation to the manufacturer's published instructions to support the product warranty
Removal and haul-away of the existing door and frame
Stucco and interior patching where the opening is modified
Manufacturer's product warranty, with the coverage provided in writing for the system you choose
Noble's own 3-year workmanship guarantee, with follow-up service if an installation issue needs correcting

What Affects the Cost of a Pivot Door?

Every pivot door is built to its opening, so there is no list price and we will not invent a range. Here is what moves the number, in the order it moves it.

PRL black aluminum doors with full-height pulls across a wide entrance

Panel Size and Weight

Size sets the weight, weight sets the hardware, and the hardware sets a large part of the price. Going wider or taller can move you into a heavier duty pivot system. It often means a stronger opening too.

What Affects Your Price

Panel width and height against the system's published limits
Finished weight with glass, cladding, pull and lock included
Whether one panel or a pair carries the opening
PRL black aluminum double doors with textured glass and sidelites

The Door Specification

Material, finish, how much of the panel is glass, the glass package, the hardware and the lock. This is the part of the quote you control most. Small changes here move the number more than people expect.

What Affects Your Price

Stile width and finish: anodized, painted, or clad
Glass area, insulating package and any privacy pattern
Pivot system, closer behavior, multipoint lock and pull
A wide exterior opening framed and carried on a structural header on a Noble project in progress

Work on the Opening

If the opening stays as it is, this line can be small. If it has to grow, it covers engineering, a new header, permitting and inspection. It also covers any floor work for the pivot, and the stucco and drywall repair afterwards.

What Affects Your Price

Whether the opening changes size, and whether the wall is load bearing
Slab condition and whether a floor pivot has to be recessed
Engineering, permit and inspection, plus stucco and interior repair

A quote far below the others usually leaves something out: a lighter pivot system than the panel needs, a plainer glass package, or the structural work, which comes back later. Ask about current promotions and financing when you book. Whatever applies to your project is written into your quote, in full, before anything is signed.

Pivot Door FAQs

What Is a Pivot Door?
A pivot door is a single door panel that turns on a vertical axis instead of swinging on hinges attached to the side jamb. The axis is carried by a pivot set: a pivot box or floor closer anchored into the floor, and a matching pivot at the head. The floor carries the weight rather than the jamb. That is what lets a pivot door be built taller, wider and heavier than a standard hinged entry door.
What Is the Difference Between a Pivot Door and a Hinged Door?
The difference is where the door turns and what holds its weight. A hinged door turns on the edge of the panel. Its hinges pass the weight into the jamb and the framing beside it. A pivot door turns on an axis set a few inches in from the edge, and most of its weight goes down into the floor. That changes three things. The panel can be much larger. A small part of it swings back toward you as the rest swings away. And it seals differently, because the panel rotates past the frame instead of closing flat against a stop.
What Sizes Do Pivot Doors Come In?
Sizes come from the manufacturer's system and the pivot hardware's published weight rating, not from a standard door size. Single pivot panels are commonly specified wider and taller than a standard 3 foot by 6 foot 8 inch door. Every system publishes a maximum panel width, height and weight. Start from your opening and your ceiling height. Then confirm the panel you want is inside the published limits for the system and hardware being quoted.
What Configurations Are Available?
There are five common ones: a single pivot panel on its own, a panel with one sidelite, a panel with matching sidelites on both sides, a panel with sidelites and a transom above, and a pair of panels that meet in the middle. Sidelites and transoms are usually fixed glass. They add width and height to the entry without adding to the weight the pivot hardware has to carry.
Who Makes the Pivot Doors You Install?
PRL Glass Systems. PRL builds commercially rated aluminum doors with narrow, medium, wide or oversize stiles, glass from 1/4 inch to 1 inch thick, and center or offset pivots. Finishes are clear or dark bronze anodize, powder coat or Kynar paint, with custom clad, stainless steel and brass also offered. Your written quote names the PRL system, the glass and the hardware for your opening.
What Materials Can a Pivot Door Be Made From?
The pivot doors we install are aluminum, from PRL Glass Systems, fabricated from 6063-T5 aluminum with reinforced corners. Pivot doors in general are also built in wood, clad wood, steel and fiberglass, and each behaves differently in Phoenix sun. A large flat panel in full afternoon sun moves more than a small one, so panel construction and finish matter more on an oversized door than on a standard one. We go through the options for your elevation and exposure during the measure.
What Glass Options Can I Put in a Pivot Door?
Glass in a door has to meet safety glazing requirements, so it is tempered or laminated. From there you can choose how much of the panel is glass, whether the glass is clear or a privacy pattern, and what the insulating package is. On a west or south facing entry, ask about a spectrally selective low-E coating on dual pane glass. It cuts solar heat gain while keeping the view. Ask about laminated glass too, where you want more sound control or more resistance to breakage.
Do I Need to Cut Into My Floor for a Pivot Door?
It depends on the hardware. A floor mounted pivot box or floor closer is recessed into the slab. It needs solid, sound material under it to anchor to. A self contained in panel system does not need that pocket. That is often the simpler answer on an existing slab or over finished flooring. We confirm which one your project needs at the measure, before anything is ordered.
Do I Need a Permit for a Pivot Door in Phoenix?
It depends on the scope. The City of Phoenix exempts minor repair or replacement in kind of doors and hardware from a permit. Two things commonly take a pivot project out of that exemption. One is widening or heightening the opening, which is structural work. The other is installing or changing locking or security hardware on an egress door. We identify what your project needs during the measure and handle the permitting where it applies.
How Well Does a Pivot Door Seal?
A pivot door usually seals less tightly than a comparable hinged door. The panel rotates past the frame rather than compressing against a stop all the way around. Good systems answer this with seals designed for that geometry, a threshold detail suited to the opening, and hardware that pulls the panel into its seals when latched. If your entry faces driving monsoon rain, or you want the lowest possible air leakage, ask for the system's tested air and water performance rather than judging it by appearance.
What Affects the Cost of a Pivot Door?
Panel size and weight come first. They drive the hardware rating and the structural work behind the opening. After that the biggest drivers are material and finish, how much of the panel is glass, the glass package, the hardware and lock set, whether sidelites or a transom are added, and whether the existing opening has to change. Structural work is quoted as its own line rather than folded into the door price. That way you can see what belongs to the door and what belongs to the opening.
How Long Does a Pivot Door Installation Take?
The lead time to build a custom pivot door depends on the manufacturer, the size, the material and the finish. The installation itself is usually short when the existing opening already fits. Projects that change the opening take longer. They add structural work, inspections and stucco or drywall repair to the schedule. We give you the specific timeline for your project in the written quote.
Will a Pivot Door Work With a Screen or a Security Door?
This is one of the real tradeoffs. Part of the panel swings inward and part swings outward. That leaves no clean plane for a conventional screen door or a surface mounted security door, the way a hinged entry does. If insect screening or a second security door matters to you, raise it before the door is selected. Then it can be designed in rather than added later.
How Much Maintenance Does a Pivot Door Need?
Not much, but two things matter in Phoenix. Keep the floor pivot or closer plate free of grit. Fine desert dust is abrasive and collects at the threshold. Have the panel checked if it starts to drag, rub or fail to close on its own. A pivot door is adjustable, and a small adjustment early prevents wear on the hardware. Wood panels in direct sun also need their finish inspected on the schedule the manufacturer publishes.
Can I See a Pivot Door Before I Order One?
Yes, and it is worth the trip. Our showroom is at 4001 E Broadway Rd, Unit B-11, Phoenix, AZ 85040. Photographs cannot show you the two things that decide a pivot door: how a large balanced panel moves under your hand, and how a finish reads in Arizona daylight rather than under a studio light. You can also handle pulls, locks and glass samples there, and compare finishes outdoors before you commit.
What Warranty Comes With a Pivot Door?
Two separate things. The manufacturer warrants the product, and the coverage differs by system, by material and by component, so we give you the written warranty for the system you choose rather than summarising it. Noble covers its own work with a 3-year workmanship guarantee, and we install to the manufacturer's published instructions, which is also what keeps the product warranty intact. Finish coverage is the part worth reading closely on a door in full Phoenix sun.
Do You Install Pivot Doors Outside Phoenix?
Yes. Noble Windows & Doors installs pivot doors across the Phoenix metro area, including Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Arcadia, Ahwatukee, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria and Queen Creek.
Are You Licensed and Insured?
Yes. Noble Windows & Doors LLC holds AZ ROC #364772, a KB-1 Dual Building Contractor license, and AZ ROC #364771 for electrical work. The company carries insurance. Where a pivot door needs the opening modified, that building scope can be handled under the same project.
